A more involved option, considered only after simpler ones

Nanofat and stromal vascular fraction (SVF), processed from your own fat and injected into the scalp, are a more invasive, less mainstream regenerative option for hair loss — discussed case by case, not offered as a routine treatment.

Scalp Nanofat / SVF Therapy — doctor-administered at the hospital

Nanofat and SVF (stromal vascular fraction) are prepared by harvesting a small amount of fat from the patient, usually with a mini-liposuction technique from the abdomen or thigh, and mechanically processing it into a fine emulsion rich in regenerative cells and growth factors. That preparation is then injected into the scalp.

This is a genuinely different category of procedure from PRP, GFC or the tissue-micrograft technique described elsewhere on this site. It requires a fat harvesting step, which means a second procedure site, additional recovery, and more discomfort than a scalp-only treatment. The evidence base for nanofat and SVF specifically in hair loss is limited compared with PRP — encouraging in some published series, but nowhere near as established, and it is not something offered routinely.

For that reason this sits at the far end of the regenerative options here: considered case by case, usually for patients who have already tried simpler, better-established options and want to discuss a more involved next step, and never presented as a first-line recommendation.

Session packages

Because of the additional harvesting step, this is usually planned as a single, more involved session rather than a frequent course, with review before any repeat.

  • Considered a niche option after simpler treatments, not a routine offering — a consultation decides whether it is appropriate at all.
  • Recovery includes the fat donor site as well as the scalp; both are discussed in advance.

Dermatology at this hospital is self-pay. We do not have an insurance facility for skin — neither for aesthetic treatment, which no Indian health policy covers, nor for medical dermatology consultations and courses.

Technology

How it is prepared

Two separate steps are involved — a small fat harvest, then mechanical processing of that fat into nanofat or SVF. Neither step involves cell culture or expansion.

  • Mini-liposuction harvest of a small volume of fat under local anaesthesia
  • Mechanical emulsification into nanofat, or further processing into an SVF-rich preparation
  • No laboratory culturing or cell banking — processed and used within the same visit
  • Injected into the scalp in the thinning area
  • Performed by Dr. Neha Shukla, MD Dermatology

Suitability

Who this is realistically for

This is discussed only after diagnosis, and typically only after medical treatment, PRP or GFC have already been tried or specifically declined in favour of a more involved option.

  • Pattern hair loss already diagnosed, with simpler options already considered or tried
  • Patients wanting to discuss a more involved regenerative option, with the extra recovery and evidence limitations understood upfront
  • Adequate fat donor area for a small harvest
  • Not offered as a routine or first-line treatment for hair loss
  • Not suitable with bleeding disorders, active infection, or where anaesthesia for the fat harvest is not appropriate

The process

What the procedure involves

  1. Assessment and honest conversation

Confirming your diagnosis and treatment history, and a candid discussion of the evidence limitations and why this is not usually the first thing tried.

  2. Fat harvest

    About 30–45 minutes

A small volume of fat is removed, usually from the abdomen or thigh, under local anaesthesia via a mini-liposuction technique.

  3. Processing

    About 20–30 minutes

The fat is mechanically processed into nanofat or an SVF-rich preparation.

  4. Scalp injection

    20–30 minutes

The preparation is injected across the thinning scalp area.

  5. Recovery

Bruising and soreness at the fat donor site for several days to a couple of weeks, alongside mild scalp tenderness. Photographic review over the following months.

Aftercare

Recovery, at both sites

  • Compression garment at the fat donor site as advised, typically for a period of days
  • Bruising and swelling at the donor site for one to two weeks
  • Mild scalp tenderness for a day or two
  • No strenuous exercise for about a week
  • Continue any prescribed medical hair treatment — this does not replace it

Questions

What people ask us

In English and ગુજરાતી, because the decision gets made in whichever one you think in.

Why would someone choose this over PRP?PRP ને બદલે આ કેમ પસંદ કરવામાં આવે?

Usually only after PRP, GFC or medical treatment have already been tried, or where a patient specifically wants to discuss a more involved option. It is not recommended as a starting point — it involves harvesting fat, more recovery, and a smaller evidence base than PRP for hair loss specifically.

Is this proven to regrow hair?

The evidence for nanofat and SVF in hair loss specifically is limited — more limited than for PRP. Some published series are encouraging, but this is not an established, first-line treatment, and it should not be chosen expecting guaranteed results.

Does the fat harvesting hurt?

It is done under local anaesthesia, so the harvest itself is not painful, but expect bruising and soreness at that site for one to two weeks afterwards — a genuinely bigger recovery than a scalp-only treatment.

Is this offered to everyone with hair loss?

No. It is discussed case by case, usually with patients who have already tried simpler options. Most people with pattern hair loss are better served starting with medical treatment, PRP or GFC.
