Eyelid surgery, by an eye surgeon

The eyelids protect the eye. When they droop, turn in or stop draining tears properly, it is both a comfort problem and a vision problem — and it belongs with someone who treats the eye itself.

Oculoplasty & Eyelid Surgery at the hospital

Oculoplasty covers the surgery of the eyelids, tear ducts and the structures around the eye. It sits at the point where eye care and appearance meet — which, in a hospital with an ophthalmic surgeon and a dermatologist under one roof, is a genuinely useful place to be.

Most of what comes through the door is functional: a lump in the lid that will not clear, a lid that droops far enough to cut into the field of vision, lashes turning inward and scratching the cornea, or an eye that waters constantly because the tear duct is blocked.

Some of it is about appearance — heaviness of the upper lids, or under-eye bags. Where the concern is the skin rather than the lid structure, Dr. Neha's dermatology service may be the better answer, and we will say so rather than operate.

Cashless insurance

Send us your policy. We'll confirm what you pay.

A photo of your policy card on WhatsApp is enough. We check whether it is one we can settle cashless, what waiting period and lens sub-limit apply, and give you your actual figure before you commit to a date.

Cashless here runs through IFFCO Tokio and covers eye surgery. Other insurers are reimbursement claims, which we help you file.

What to send

  1. 01A photo of your policy card, front and back
  2. 02The treatment you have been advised
  3. 03Whichever hospital or doctor referred you, if any

Suitability

What this covers

  • Chalazion and stye that has not settled with warm compresses
  • Ptosis — a drooping upper lid, in adults or children
  • Entropion and ectropion — lids turning inward or outward
  • Trichiasis — lashes growing into the eye
  • Watering eyes from a blocked tear duct
  • Eyelid lumps and lesions needing removal and examination
  • Heavy upper lids affecting the upper field of vision

The process

How it works

  1. Assessment

Examination of the lid, the tear film and the cornea, plus a field check where a droopy lid may be blocking vision. This distinguishes a functional problem from an appearance one, which affects both the plan and the insurance position.

  2. Minor procedures

    Often the same visit

Chalazion incision and lash procedures are done under local anaesthesia in the procedure room, usually in well under half an hour.

  3. Lid surgery

Ptosis, entropion and ectropion repairs are day procedures under local anaesthesia, with sutures removed at about a week.

  4. Recovery

Swelling and bruising for a week to ten days, settling steadily. Cold compresses early, then antibiotic ointment as directed.

Questions

What people ask us

In English and ગુજરાતી, because the decision gets made in whichever one you think in.

Is eyelid surgery covered by insurance?

It depends on whether the problem is functional or cosmetic. A drooping lid that measurably obstructs your field of vision, or lashes damaging the cornea, is usually treated as medical. Purely aesthetic lid surgery is not. We will tell you which category yours falls into before you commit.

My chalazion keeps coming back. Why?

Recurrent chalazia usually point to an underlying lid margin problem such as blepharitis or meibomian gland dysfunction. Draining the lump without treating the cause invites it to return, so the plan needs to address both.

How long will the bruising last?

Most swelling settles within a week; bruising can take ten days to two weeks to fade fully. Plan accordingly around anything social.
