Acne is a medical condition. It responds to treatment.

Not a facial, not a scrub, not a product bought on a recommendation. A dermatologist works out what is driving your acne and treats that — which is why it clears and stays clear.

Acne Treatment — doctor-administered at the hospital

Acne happens when oil and dead skin block a follicle, bacteria multiply inside it, and the surrounding skin inflames. How that presents varies enormously — blackheads and whiteheads, angry red papules, deep painful nodules along the jaw — and each pattern needs a different approach.

Which is the reason over-the-counter routines so often fail. A product aimed at surface oil does nothing for hormonally driven nodular acne along the jawline. A harsh scrub on inflamed skin makes it worse and leaves marks behind.

Dr. Neha grades the acne, identifies what is driving it — hormonal, occlusive, product-related, medication-related — and builds a plan around that. Most treatment is topical and oral. The important thing is that it is chosen for your skin and reviewed as it responds.

Dermatology at this hospital is self-pay. We do not have an insurance facility for skin — neither for aesthetic treatment, which no Indian health policy covers, nor for medical dermatology consultations and courses.

Suitability

Worth seeing a dermatologist for

  • Acne that has not improved after two or three months of over-the-counter treatment
  • Painful lumps under the skin rather than surface spots
  • Breakouts leaving dark marks or scars behind
  • Acne along the jaw and chin that flares with your cycle
  • Adult acne appearing for the first time after your twenties
  • Acne affecting how you feel about being seen — a legitimate reason on its own

The process

How treatment runs

  1. Consultation and grading

    Visit 1

Examination of the type and severity, a look at your current routine and any medication, and where the pattern suggests it, investigations for a hormonal driver.

  2. Your plan

Usually a combination: a topical to clear the follicle, something to control the bacteria and inflammation, and a simplified routine that stops making it worse. Oral treatment where the grade calls for it.

  3. Review at 6–8 weeks

Acne treatment is judged on skin cell turnover, not days. The first review is where the plan is adjusted — and where an initial purge, if you had one, has settled.

  4. Maintenance

Once clear, a lighter maintenance routine keeps it that way. Stopping entirely is the most common reason acne returns.

Aftercare

What helps, alongside treatment

  • A gentle cleanser twice a day — no scrubbing, no more than twice
  • Sunscreen every morning, especially on retinoid or acid treatment
  • Non-comedogenic moisturiser; treated skin still needs moisture
  • Do not pick or squeeze — that is what turns a spot into a scar
  • Give any change eight weeks before judging it

Questions

What people ask us

In English and ગુજરાતી, because the decision gets made in whichever one you think in.

How long before I see a difference?કેટલા સમયમાં ફરક દેખાશે?

Expect six to eight weeks for a clear change, and around three months for the full effect. Some treatments cause a temporary flare in the first few weeks before they improve things — you will be warned if yours is one of them.

Will the marks left behind go away too?

Dark marks left after a spot heals — post-inflammatory pigmentation — usually fade over months, faster with treatment and sunscreen. True indented scars do not fade on their own and are treated separately.

Is it my diet?

For most people, diet is a minor factor rather than the cause. There is reasonable evidence for high-glycaemic foods and, in some people, dairy. It is worth discussing, but changing your diet alone rarely clears acne.

Do I need to keep taking treatment after it clears?

Usually a lighter maintenance regimen, yes. Acne is a condition that is controlled rather than cured, and the most common reason it comes back is stopping everything the moment the skin looks good.
