Laser Hair Reduction — doctor-administered at the hospital
Laser hair reduction works by targeting the pigment in the hair, heating the follicle and disabling its ability to produce hair. Because only hairs in their active growth phase respond, and only a fraction are in that phase at any moment, it takes a course of sessions spaced several weeks apart to work through them all.
The name matters: reduction, not removal. A completed course typically leaves the area dramatically clearer, with what remains finer and lighter, and most people need occasional top-ups after that. Anyone promising permanent removal in six sittings is overselling.
Every session here is done under Dr. Neha's supervision on a medical-grade device, with settings chosen for your skin type. That is not a formality — the wrong settings on Indian skin cause burns and post-inflammatory pigmentation, which is the main risk of having this done cheaply somewhere without a dermatologist.

- Sessions are spaced four to six weeks apart on the face, six to eight weeks on the body, following the growth cycle of that area.
- The number of sessions varies with hair density, hormones and the area treated. You will be given a realistic number at your consultation.
- Maintenance sessions once or twice a year keep the result; they are priced individually.
Dermatology at this hospital is self-pay. We do not have an insurance facility for skin — neither for aesthetic treatment, which no Indian health policy covers, nor for medical dermatology consultations and courses.

Skin type is assessed on the Fitzpatrick scale before the first session and the parameters are set accordingly, then adjusted at each visit based on how your skin responded to the last.

Laser targets pigment, so dark hair on any skin tone responds well. Grey, white and very fine blonde hair does not respond, because there is no pigment for the laser to find.

What a session is like

Skin type assessment, a check for anything that would make treatment unsafe, and a patch test to confirm your settings.
Preparation
The day beforeShave the area — do not wax, thread or epilate for four weeks beforehand, because the laser needs an intact follicle to target. Avoid sun and tanning for two weeks before.
The session
10 minutes to an hour, by areaA cooled handpiece is passed over the area. It feels like a warm rubber band snap. Most people find it entirely manageable without numbing.
Immediately after
Mild redness and slight bumps around the follicles for a few hours, occasionally a day. Treated hairs shed over the following one to three weeks — that shedding is the treatment working, not regrowth.
The course
Repeat at the interval set for your area. Reduction builds session on session; the difference is usually obvious by the third or fourth.
Aftercare
After each session
- Sunscreen daily on any exposed treated area, without exception
- No hot showers, sauna, steam or gym for 24 hours
- No scrubs, retinoids or acids on the area for two to three days
- Shave between sessions if you need to — never wax, thread or epilate
- Let shedding hairs come out on their own; do not pull them

Typically six to eight, spaced four to eight weeks apart depending on the area. Hormonal facial hair often needs more, plus maintenance. You will get a realistic number for your case at the consultation rather than a stock answer.

Does it hurt?
Most people describe it as a warm rubber band snap, with the cooling making it quite tolerable. The upper lip and bikini areas are the most sensitive. Numbing cream is available if you would prefer it.
Is it safe for Indian skin?
Yes, with the right device and the right settings — which is exactly where it goes wrong when done without a dermatologist. Wrong parameters on darker skin cause burns and pigmentation. Your skin type is assessed and patch tested before the first full session.
Why can't I wax before a session?
Because the laser needs the hair root to be present in the follicle to target it. Waxing, threading and epilating remove it. Shaving is fine — it leaves the root intact.
Can I have it done during pregnancy?
We do not treat during pregnancy. There is no strong evidence of harm, but there is no good evidence of safety either, and hormonal hair changes during pregnancy often reverse afterwards anyway.
