Find out why the hair is falling, then treat that

Hair fall is a symptom with many different causes. Treating it without knowing which one you have is how people spend a year on the wrong thing.

Hair Fall Treatment — doctor-administered at the hospital

Losing some hair every day is normal. What brings people in is a change: more in the drain, a widening parting, a receding hairline, or handfuls coming out over a few weeks. Those are different problems with different treatments.

Pattern hair loss is gradual, follows a recognisable pattern and is largely genetic — it responds to sustained medical treatment and to PRP. Telogen effluvium is a sudden diffuse shed, typically two to three months after an illness, a delivery, surgery, a crash diet or severe stress, and it usually recovers once the trigger passes. Deficiency of iron, vitamin D or B12 and thyroid disorders each cause their own picture and are corrected directly.

So the first appointment is diagnostic: examination of the scalp and hair-pull pattern, the timeline of your shedding, and blood work where indicated. The treatment plan follows from that.

Dermatology at this hospital is self-pay. We do not have an insurance facility for skin — neither for aesthetic treatment, which no Indian health policy covers, nor for medical dermatology consultations and courses.

Suitability

Come in when

  • Your parting is visibly widening, or the scalp is showing through
  • Sudden heavy shedding over a few weeks
  • A receding hairline or thinning at the crown
  • Hair fall after childbirth, illness, surgery or significant weight loss
  • Patchy, coin-shaped bald spots — a different condition needing prompt attention
  • Itching, flaking or scarring on the scalp alongside the hair loss

The process

Diagnosis, then treatment

  1. Consultation and scalp examination

    Visit 1

The pattern of loss, hair-pull test, scalp condition, and your history — illness, delivery, diet, medication, family pattern.

  2. Investigations where indicated

Iron studies, vitamin D, B12, thyroid function and, where the picture suggests it, hormonal tests. Correcting a deficiency is often a substantial part of the answer.

  3. Medical management

Topical and, where appropriate, oral treatment matched to the diagnosis, alongside correction of anything the blood work turns up.

  4. PRP where suitable

Typically a course of sessions, monthly

Platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood and injected into the scalp to support the follicles. Most useful in pattern hair loss, and used alongside medical treatment rather than instead of it.

  5. Review at 3 and 6 months

Hair grows slowly. Standardised photographs at set intervals are the only honest way to judge whether treatment is working.

Questions

What people ask us

In English and ગુજરાતી, because the decision gets made in whichever one you think in.

How much hair fall is normal?કેટલા વાળ ખરવા સામાન્ય ગણાય?

Roughly fifty to a hundred hairs a day. What matters more than the count is whether your hair is visibly thinning — a widening parting or a scalp showing through is a better reason to come in than a number.

Will the hair grow back?

It depends on the cause. Telogen effluvium usually recovers fully once the trigger resolves. Pattern hair loss can be slowed and partly reversed with sustained treatment, but follicles lost long ago do not return. Scarring hair loss needs urgent treatment to save what remains.

Does PRP work?

It has reasonable evidence in pattern hair loss, used as part of a plan rather than on its own, over a course of sessions with maintenance afterwards. It is not a substitute for treating an underlying deficiency or thyroid problem.

How soon will I see results?

Reduced shedding within about two to three months; visible regrowth takes six months or more. Anything promising results in weeks is not describing how hair actually grows.
