A close relative of PRP, prepared a different way

GFC is derived from your own blood, like PRP, but processed differently to yield a fibrin-based concentrate of growth factors without the platelets themselves. Both are reasonable options for pattern hair loss; which one suits you is often a practical choice, not a clear-cut winner.

Scalp GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) — doctor-administered at the hospital

Growth Factor Concentrate starts from the same place as PRP therapy — a blood draw, then centrifugation — but the processing differs. Rather than concentrating the platelets themselves, GFC preparation lyses the platelets and separates out the growth factors and fibrin they release, injecting that fraction rather than the platelets. In practical terms it is a related but distinct preparation from the PRP described elsewhere on this site, not the same product under a different name.

Whether GFC or standard PRP produces a better result is not settled, and this practice is not going to tell you one is clearly superior — the honest answer is that both have reasonable supporting evidence for pattern hair loss, both work by similar underlying biology, and the choice between them is often practical: which is better suited to your scalp condition, what has been used in your previous sessions if you're continuing a course elsewhere, or simply which the treating dermatologist judges will suit your case on the day. Anyone claiming certainty that one dramatically outperforms the other is overstating what the evidence supports.

Like every treatment on this page, GFC is an addition to a medical plan, not a substitute for one. Hair loss is diagnosed first — pattern loss, telogen effluvium, deficiency, thyroid disease — and GFC is used to support follicles once that diagnosis and its own correction (if needed) are underway.

  • Run alongside, not instead of, medical treatment for the diagnosed cause of your hair loss.
  • The choice between GFC and standard PRP is discussed at consultation rather than fixed in advance.

Dermatology at this hospital is self-pay. We do not have an insurance facility for skin — neither for aesthetic treatment, which no Indian health policy covers, nor for medical dermatology consultations and courses.

Technology

How it differs from PRP, technically

  • Prepared from your own blood, like PRP, but with a processing step that lyses platelets to release a concentrated growth-factor and fibrin fraction
  • Injected without the platelets themselves, unlike standard PRP
  • Comparable evidence base to PRP for pattern hair loss, without established proof of superiority either way
  • Prepared and injected in the same visit; nothing is stored
  • Performed by Dr. Neha Shukla, MD Dermatology

Suitability

Who this suits

GFC is considered for the same group of patients as PRP: predominantly pattern hair loss, already under or starting medical treatment. It is not offered as a stand-alone answer to hair loss of unknown cause.

  • Pattern hair loss, alongside medical management
  • People who have had PRP before and want to try GFC, or vice versa, as part of an ongoing plan
  • Diffuse thinning being actively supported with medical treatment
  • Not a substitute for correcting a diagnosed deficiency or thyroid condition
  • Not suitable with platelet or clotting disorders, active scalp infection, or during pregnancy

The process

A session, start to finish

  1. Confirming the diagnosis

Visit 1, if not already assessed

The same diagnostic step as for PRP and every hair treatment here — establishing the cause of your hair loss before deciding GFC is the right addition.

  2. Blood draw

    5 minutes

A routine draw from the arm, similar in volume to PRP.

  3. Preparation

    About 20–30 minutes

The sample is processed to separate and concentrate the growth-factor and fibrin fraction, a different protocol from standard PRP preparation.

  4. Injection

    20–30 minutes

Fine injections across the scalp after topical numbing, in a grid over the thinning area.

  5. Course and review

    Typically monthly

Run as a course, with progress judged on standardised photographs at three and six months.

Aftercare

After a session

  • No hair wash, oil or styling products for 24 hours
  • No gym, sauna or steam for 24 hours
  • Mild scalp tenderness and swelling for a day or two is normal
  • Avoid blood thinners and anti-inflammatories around the session where your physician permits
  • Photographs at baseline, three and six months to track change objectively

Questions

What people ask us

In English and ગુજરાતી, because the decision gets made in whichever one you think in.

Is GFC better than PRP?શું GFC, PRP કરતાં વધુ સારું છે?

Not established to be, in either direction. Both are prepared from your own blood and work on similar biology, with a broadly comparable evidence base for pattern hair loss. The choice is often practical rather than about one being proven superior — that's discussed honestly at your consultation.

What's actually different between GFC and PRP?

Both start from a blood draw and centrifugation. PRP concentrates the platelets and injects them intact. GFC processing goes a step further, lysing the platelets and injecting the growth-factor and fibrin fraction they release, without the platelets themselves.

Will GFC fix my hair loss on its own?

Rarely, on its own — the same is true of PRP. If your hair loss is driven by a deficiency, thyroid disease or untreated pattern loss, that has to be addressed directly. GFC supports follicles once that treatment is in place.

Can I switch between PRP and GFC across my course?

It's discussed rather than ruled out — some patients do use both across a treatment plan. What matters more than which one you had last time is staying consistent with the overall course and review schedule.

How soon will I see results?

Similar timeline to PRP: reduced shedding within a couple of months, density change judged at six months on standardised photographs. Anything promising faster is not describing how hair actually grows.
