A newer technique — explained with the evidence it actually has

Exosome therapy injects cell-derived signalling vesicles into the scalp to support hair density. It is genuinely new, the evidence is still limited, and we would rather say that plainly than oversell it.

Scalp Exosome Therapy — doctor-administered at the hospital

Exosomes are tiny vesicles released by cells that carry proteins and genetic signals used in cell-to-cell communication. In scalp treatment, a prepared exosome solution — typically derived from cell culture, not from your own blood or tissue — is injected or infused into the scalp with the idea that it can signal follicles toward a more active growth state.

This is a genuinely emerging technique. The evidence base for hair loss specifically is still small — early studies and clinical experience are encouraging in places, but nothing close to the volume of evidence behind PRP or established medical hair-loss treatments. Regulatory status and product standardisation for exosome preparations are also still evolving in India, and product quality varies significantly between suppliers.

For that reason this is presented here as a newer adjunct technique, discussed case by case, and not as a proven or first-line treatment. It sits alongside — never instead of — the medical diagnosis and treatment that any hair loss needs first.

  • Considered an adjunct to medical treatment, not a replacement for it.
  • You will be told plainly where the evidence is thin, not just where it is encouraging.

Dermatology at this hospital is self-pay. We do not have an insurance facility for skin — neither for aesthetic treatment, which no Indian health policy covers, nor for medical dermatology consultations and courses.

Technology

What is used, and what we check

Because this field is unregulated in places and product quality varies, the source and handling of the exosome solution matters more here than in most treatments on this site.

  • A prepared exosome solution from a traceable, quality-controlled source
  • Applied by injection or with microneedling to the scalp
  • No claim of stem cells or living cells in the preparation — exosomes are cell-free vesicles
  • Administered by Dr. Neha Shukla, MD Dermatology, with the sourcing and rationale discussed openly at consultation

Suitability

Who this might be discussed with

Only after pattern hair loss or another cause has been diagnosed, and usually for patients who have already tried or are already on established treatment and are interested in an emerging adjunct.

  • Pattern hair loss already diagnosed and under medical management
  • Patients specifically asking about newer regenerative options, with realistic expectations set in advance
  • Not a substitute for treating a deficiency, thyroid cause, or active scarring hair loss
  • Not offered as a first-line or standalone treatment
  • Not suitable with active scalp infection or during pregnancy

The process

What a session involves

  1. Consultation

Confirming the diagnosis behind your hair loss and an honest conversation about what exosome therapy does and does not have evidence for.

  2. Numbing

Topical anaesthetic on the scalp before injections or microneedling.

  3. Application

    20–30 minutes

The exosome solution is injected across the scalp or delivered with microneedling, depending on the plan agreed with you.

  4. Afterwards

Mild scalp tenderness for a day or so, similar to PRP or GFC.

  5. Review

Photographed alongside your existing medical treatment at set intervals — this is tracked as an addition, not treated as the main event.

Aftercare

After a session

  • No hair wash for 24 hours
  • No gym, sauna or steam for 24 hours
  • Mild tenderness or redness on the scalp for a day or two is normal
  • Continue any prescribed medical treatment — this does not replace it
  • Report any unexpected reaction promptly

Questions

What people ask us

In English and ગુજરાતી, because the decision gets made in whichever one you think in.

Is exosome therapy proven to regrow hair?શું એક્ઝોસોમ થેરાપી વાળ ફરી ઉગાડવા માટે સાબિત છે?

Not in the way that established treatments are. It is a newer technique with a genuinely limited evidence base for hair loss specifically. Some studies and clinical experience are encouraging, but this is not a proven, guaranteed treatment, and it will not be presented as one here.

Is this regulated in India?

Exosome preparations are a newer category and regulatory oversight and product standards are still evolving here. That is part of why sourcing matters and why this is discussed openly rather than sold as a routine option.

Should this replace PRP or medical treatment?

No. It is considered an adjunct at most, offered to patients already diagnosed and typically already on established treatment. It is never presented as a substitute for medical management of hair loss.

What are exosomes exactly?

Tiny vesicles released by cells, carrying proteins and signalling molecules — not living cells themselves. The preparations used for scalp treatment are cell-free.

How many sessions does it involve?

Usually discussed as a short course with review, rather than a single session. Given how new this is, expectations are kept modest and reviewed honestly rather than assumed.
