An antioxidant drip — not a skin-lightening treatment

Glutathione is an antioxidant your body already produces. Given intravenously, some people use it for general wellness and skin radiance. It is not offered here, and should not be offered anywhere, as a way to change your natural skin tone.

Intravenous Glutathione Therapy — doctor-administered at the hospital

Glutathione is an antioxidant made naturally by your body, involved in protecting cells from oxidative stress. As an intravenous infusion, it has legitimate use in some medical contexts, and cosmetically some people use it as a wellness adjunct — the idea being that reducing oxidative stress supports general skin radiance and helps skin look less dull or tired.

It is worth being direct about what the evidence actually supports here: the data for cosmetic IV glutathione is limited, mixed, and nowhere near as strong as the marketing around it in India and across Asia suggests. Some people report their skin looking fresher after a course; there is no robust evidence it lightens your natural skin tone or produces a dramatic transformation, and the popular claim that it does is not one we make.

This hospital's position on skin tone is stated plainly on the pigmentation page and applies exactly the same way here: treatment is not offered to make anyone lighter than their natural skin tone, and no responsible dermatologist offers that. If that is what someone is looking for, this is not the right hospital and this is not the right treatment. What is offered is an antioxidant infusion, positioned honestly as general wellness support with modest, hedged expectations for skin radiance — not as skin whitening.

  • Sessions are typically spaced weekly. There is no medical basis for very high-frequency dosing, and that is not offered here regardless of demand.
  • This is offered as a general antioxidant/wellness adjunct. It is not marketed or sold here as a skin-lightening or skin-whitening treatment.

Dermatology at this hospital is self-pay. We do not have an insurance facility for skin — neither for aesthetic treatment, which no Indian health policy covers, nor for medical dermatology consultations and courses.

Technology

How it is given

  • Pharmaceutical-grade glutathione, given as a slow intravenous infusion under medical supervision
  • A medical history and, where relevant, basic blood work reviewed before the first infusion
  • Administered in a clinical setting with the ability to manage a reaction, should one occur
  • No claims of skin-lightening or whitening made in how this is discussed or marketed here
  • Overseen by Dr. Neha Shukla, MD Dermatology

Suitability

What this is, and what it is not

Read this before booking — it sets realistic expectations rather than the ones common marketing sets.

  • An antioxidant infusion, sometimes used as general wellness support and for skin dullness
  • Not a treatment to lighten your natural skin tone — that claim is not made here
  • Not a substitute for medical treatment of melasma, pigmentation or a diagnosed skin condition
  • Best considered by people wanting general antioxidant support who understand the evidence for cosmetic use is limited
  • Requires a medical history review before starting — not suitable with certain kidney conditions, in pregnancy, or with a known sensitivity to the infusion components
  • Not appropriate for anyone whose goal is to become visibly lighter-skinned

The process

What an infusion involves

  1. Medical review

    Before the first session

A history review to check the infusion is appropriate for you, and an honest conversation about what it can and cannot realistically do.

  2. The infusion

    20–40 minutes

A cannula is placed and glutathione is given as a slow drip. You are monitored throughout for any reaction.

  3. Immediately after

Most people feel no different immediately. A brief metallic taste during the infusion is common and harmless.

  4. The course

Repeated on the agreed schedule if you choose to continue. Any perceived change in skin radiance is gradual, if it occurs at all, and modest.

Aftercare

After an infusion

  • Stay hydrated for the rest of the day
  • Report any rash, breathlessness or unusual reaction immediately
  • No specific downtime — most people go straight back to normal activities
  • Continue your regular sunscreen and skincare; this infusion does not replace either
  • If your goal is treating diagnosed pigmentation or melasma, that is addressed through the medical pigmentation pathway, not this infusion

Questions

What people ask us

In English and ગુજરાતી, because the decision gets made in whichever one you think in.

Will IV glutathione make my skin lighter?શું IV ગ્લુટાથાયોનથી ત્વચા ગોરી થાય છે?

This is not offered, or claimed, as a skin-lightening treatment. It is not a treatment to make you lighter than you naturally are, and no responsible dermatologist offers that — the same position this hospital takes on its pigmentation page. What some people use it for is general antioxidant support and skin radiance, with modest, honestly hedged expectations.

What does the evidence actually say?

The evidence for cosmetic use of IV glutathione is limited and mixed, considerably weaker than the marketing claims made around it across South and Southeast Asia. There is more established use of glutathione in other medical contexts. We would rather say this plainly than oversell it.

Is it safe?

Given appropriately, in a clinical setting, with a prior medical history review, it is generally well tolerated. It is not suitable for everyone — certain kidney conditions and pregnancy are reasons to avoid it — which is why a review happens before the first infusion, not after.

How is this different from treating pigmentation medically?

Diagnosed pigmentation conditions like melasma are treated through this hospital's medical pigmentation pathway — topicals, sun protection and, where appropriate, peels or laser at safe settings. IV glutathione is a separate, general wellness adjunct and is not a treatment for a diagnosed pigmentation disorder.

How many sessions would I need to notice anything?

If you notice a change at all, it is typically gradual over a course of several sessions rather than after one. Expectations here are kept modest deliberately, because the evidence does not support promising more.
