Resurfacing that rebuilds texture from underneath

Fractional CO2 creates thousands of microscopic injury columns that force the skin to rebuild — real improvement in texture, scarring and fine lines, with real downtime and real risk if the settings are wrong for your skin.

Fractional CO2 Laser — doctor-administered at the hospital

A fractional CO2 laser delivers energy in a grid of microscopic columns, each one ablating a tiny core of tissue while leaving the surrounding skin untouched. That untouched skin heals the treated columns quickly, and the healing response itself is what remodels collagen and improves texture, scarring and fine lines over the following weeks.

This is one of the more aggressive resurfacing options on this list — more effective per session than microneedling for textural change, and correspondingly more downtime and more risk on skin that pigments easily. It is not a lunchtime procedure.

On Indian skin, the fluence, density and depth are the entire safety story: too aggressive and the result is prolonged redness and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, sometimes lasting months. Every session here is planned and supervised by Dr. Neha, starting conservative on darker or more reactive skin rather than defaulting to a standard setting.

Session packages

Priced per session and by area, with the number of sessions depending on what is being treated. Scarring generally needs more sessions than a general resurfacing course.

  • Sessions are spaced at least six to eight weeks apart to allow full healing before the next.
  • Deeper settings mean more downtime and a stronger effect per session — that trade-off is discussed and chosen at your consultation, not assumed.

Dermatology at this hospital is self-pay. We do not have an insurance facility for skin — neither for aesthetic treatment, which no Indian health policy covers, nor for medical dermatology consultations and courses.

Technology

The device and Indian-skin safety

This is the treatment where getting the settings wrong is most consequential — deeper, denser passes than your skin can safely heal cause burns and lasting pigmentation, not just a longer recovery.

  • Fractional CO2 laser with adjustable depth and density, matched to the concern and the area
  • Conservative starting parameters on medium to dark skin, stepped up only across sessions as tolerance is confirmed
  • Pre-treatment priming with topicals on pigment-prone skin, to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation
  • Full numbing before treatment; deeper settings occasionally warrant additional local anaesthesia
  • Planned and supervised throughout by Dr. Neha Shukla, MD Dermatology

Suitability

What this treats well

Fractional CO2 suits genuine textural and structural change. It is not the first step for mild dullness or early concerns — gentler options are tried there first.

  • Acne scarring, particularly boxcar scars and overall textural irregularity
  • Fine lines and early photoageing, especially around the mouth and eyes
  • Enlarged pores and rough, uneven texture
  • Surgical or traumatic scars, once fully healed
  • Best suited to lighter to moderate skin tones or darker skin treated conservatively with careful pre- and post-care
  • Not suitable during active acne, isotretinoin use, active infection, or in anyone prone to keloid scarring

The process

Treatment and recovery

  1. Assessment and priming

Skin type and concern determine the depth and density planned. Pigment-prone skin is often primed with topicals for two to four weeks beforehand.

  2. Numbing

    45–60 minutes before

Topical anaesthetic, applied thickly and left to take full effect before treatment begins.

  3. The laser pass

    20–40 minutes

The laser is passed across the treatment area in a set pattern. Heat and stinging are felt despite numbing, more so at deeper settings.

  4. The first week

    Days 1–7

Skin is red and swollen for two to four days, then browns and sheds like a graze over the following days. This is expected and should not be picked at.

  5. Ongoing remodelling

    Weeks to months

Surface healing is visible within a week or two; the deeper collagen remodelling that improves scarring and texture continues for several months.

Aftercare

Recovery care

  • Strict sun avoidance and broad-spectrum sunscreen once skin has closed — non-negotiable for weeks afterwards
  • Gentle, bland skincare only until the skin fully re-surfaces, usually five to seven days
  • No picking at shedding skin — that is how scarring or pigmentation gets made worse, not better
  • Expect visible redness for several days to a couple of weeks; plan time away from major events
  • No makeup until the skin has closed, generally after the first few days

Questions

What people ask us

In English and ગુજરાતી, because the decision gets made in whichever one you think in.

How much downtime does this actually need?આ સારવાર પછી કેટલો ડાઉનટાઇમ જોઈએ?

Expect obvious redness and shedding skin for around a week, with residual pinkness fading over the following one to two weeks depending on depth. This is not a treatment to fit around a weekend before an event.

Is fractional CO2 safe on Indian skin?

Yes, when the depth and density are conservative and matched to your skin type, with proper priming and aftercare. Run at settings meant for lighter skin, it is a genuine risk for burns and prolonged post-inflammatory pigmentation — which is why this is planned by a dermatologist, not offered off a menu.

How is this different from microneedling for scars?

Microneedling causes controlled injury without removing tissue and has less downtime; fractional CO2 ablates tissue in a grid pattern and produces a stronger textural change per session, at the cost of more downtime and more risk on reactive skin. Which one is right depends on your scar type and skin tone.

Will my scars fully disappear?

No — expect meaningful improvement in depth and texture across a short course of sessions, not erasure. Anyone promising completely smooth skin from resurfacing alone is overselling it.

Can this be combined with other scar treatments?

Often, yes — subcision for tethered rolling scars, then resurfacing for overall texture, is a common combination. The order and spacing are planned around how your skin heals between sessions.
